Good afternoon guys! I hope everyone is enjoying the sun and looking forward to a warmer weekend. For the past week and a half, pizza has been on my mind and I have been craving it to no end. Usually when I have cravings they’re very strong and I can’t get rid of them until I get the food I’m desperately longing for. Pizza on the other hand, is something that I crave but can always find a way to get away from it for a day or two. I think this is mainly because I try to be conscious of what I eat, and I also don’t eat pork so my options are very limited. This limitation brings me to what I wanted to talk about today. Since I don’t eat pork, my pizzas usually tend to consists of healthier toppings such as green peppers, banana peppers, onions, mushrooms etc. Pizzas in general, can’t be but so healthy considering the amount of cheese that we all like on them and the different variations of cheese as well. Since I know college students, including myself sometimes live off of pizza because its cheap and also the one food that is given out for free at functions, these are some tips I have for making your pizza a little healthier:
•add vegetables for toppings
•eat a slice or 2 and then give it time to digest before eating more, instead of eating the whole pizza at one time and laying on the couch for the rest of the night (we’ve all done it lol)
•add a side salad to your pizza. It will help fill you and also give you some veggies if you don’t like them as toppings on your pizza. Just don’t flood your salad with ranch and cheese.
If you’re making your own pizza then the options are endless!
•You can use whole wheat flour or already made whole wheat crust.
• You can make your own sauce, or experiment with salsa, pesto sauce, BBQ sauce, etc.
•If you’re a meat lovers person you can try the turkey/chicken alternatives for sausage, bacon, and pepperoni.
• You can even try adding fruit to your pizza such as pineapple for a Hawaiian pizza or you could make a fruit pizza entirely made of.. well fruit lol
I hope some of you will try these tips out or make up your own and see what gets your taste buds rolling!
Be happy and smile.
