As may were out and about yesterday preparing for the snow storm that would be approaching Friday morning (today), myself included, I picked up on interesting food choices and priorities of those around me. Of course, there were people buying the essentials. Milk, eggs, bread, water, etc. There were some stocking up on different meats to have a feast. Some people were just choosing snack foods to have the perfect “Netflix and Chill” weekend. Then there were young people, most of which are in college that had cases of beer and packs of Ramen Noodles. I laughed and thought “Oh typical college kid behavior”. I even bought a bottle of wine. I’m going to be snowed in for a couple of days, might as well relax and enjoy the time off. However, I bought real groceries along with the wine. It made me realize how bad students eating habits can be when in college. Freshman 15 comes from eating mac and cheese, pizza, and fries around the clock, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Although there’s nothing healthy about Ramen noodles, there are some healthy components that can be added to it to make it a better meal. And unfortunately since Ramen noodles are a big part of college kids life, I’ve decided to give a few tips on how to spruise up Ramen noodles.
- Add shredded chicken, shrimp, beef, or egg for a protein kick
- Use half of the seasoning packet and add in things such as jalepenoes, oregano, etc. for added flavor
- Add vegetable such as corn, spinach, peas, carrots, mushrooms, etc. (my personal favorite)
There’s many ways to incoorporate healthy foods into your normal routine of eating. You just have to be aware of them and be willing to do it.
Be happy and smile,
